Brown Middle School

Brown Middle School is home to approximately 750 students and 86 staff members in grades 6-8.  As part of the District reorganization in 2008, 6th grade students joined Brown from Rausch Intermediate School. The 5th grade students were assigned to one of four elementary buildings beginning with the 2008-09 school year.  Over the years, Brown has consisted of a 7-8, 6-8, or a 7-9 middle school.

Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies are core academic classes required for all students.  Additional course offerings include Art, Music, Band, Choir, Work and Family (7th and 8th), Health (7th), Physical Education, Study Skills (7th and 8th), and Computer classes.  Enrichment classes consist of Advanced Language Arts, Advanced Math, and Advanced Art.  The teaching staff strives to provide the best possible education for their students.  Many professional development hours have been utilized to differentiate their instruction, provide intervention strategies, align their instruction with academic content standards, and maintain knowledge of the best teaching practices.  Brown Middle also provides after school tutoring that allows students to receive assistance with their homework as well as intervention in reading and math through a computer program called Success Maker.

In addition to academic offerings, Brown Middle School students enjoy many opportunities outside of the regular school day.  Panda, Builder’s Club, and Student Council are clubs that all students can join.  Each of these groups provides a service to the school and to the community.  School athletics are available for grades 7 and 8.  They consist of cross country, soccer, football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, golf, and track.  Students are eligible to participate if they pass 75 % of their classes during the preceding nine weeks.  Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities promote a sense of pride, team work and work ethic that help to make our students well-rounded individuals.  Go Ravens!!!!
