For years, Wednesday nights during the summer in Ravenna meant 'Cruise Night' at the A&W. Warm summer nights were transformed into something resembling the 1950's and 60's, with vintage automobiles, shined to perfection, lined up in the A&W Root Beer stand and often spilling over into the adjacent parking lot. With 'Car Hop's' from A&W serving up ice cold root beer, DJ's playing old time rock and roll, and the sound of the occasional hot rod engine firing up, attendees could easily imagine themselves back in the 1950's and 1960's.
Organizers of the weekly Cruise Night decided to end the summer in a BIG way. On August 27th, 2014, the last official Cruise Night of the season, organizers in cooperation with area businesses and city officials closed down east Main Street from Linden St. to New Milford Rd. with the intent to bring in a few more vehicles and allow for street rod and motorcycle demonstrations up and down the roadway. No one could have predicted the turnout and enthusiasm the event received. When all said and done, 709 vintage automobiles, motorcycles, customized semis, tractors, and just about any other motorized vehicle imaginable had converged on the area. The end result was truly a night to remember ... a night beyond anyone's expectations. With the incredible success of this first 2014 event the Ravenna Cruise-In became an annual event, with 2015 participation exceeding that of 2014.
